Hanover Park to spend $880,000 to fix Celebrity Circle

After delaying a vote on the project in the fall, Hanover Park trustees have approved spending nearly $880,000 in motor fuel tax dollars to reconstruct and resurface Celebrity Circle, a one-mile road village officials said is in desperate need of repairs.

A push to fix the road in September was stymied because municipalities were not receiving their share of the motor fuel tax dollars from the state.

With the release of the money at the end of the year, the village put the project out for bid in January.

When the project originally went out for bid in the fall, the lowest bid came from A-Lamp Road Builders at just less than $970,000. This time around, Chicagoland Paving Contractors came in with the lowest bid at just under $880,000. The next lowest bidder was Johnson Paving at $925,000.

"What a difference a couple of months makes," Director of Public Works T.J. Moore said.

Moore says the village did patchwork on the road during the winter so it is in roughly the same shape it was in the fall.

"An old road deteriorates quickly, a new road doesn't get bad as fast," Moore said.

It's unclear how long the project will take to complete, but work will include reconstruction and resurfacing and new curbs and sidewalks as needed.

Moore says work could begin in late spring or early summer, and he doesn't expect work will shut down the road completely.

"It's something where we can stage and phase the construction," Moore said.
