Cougars lose fourth straight
The Kane County Cougars (19-19) fell Wednesday for the fourth straight time as the Peoria Chiefs (20-18) come away with a 5-3 win at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.
Fronted by dynamic starting pitching, the Chiefs were lifted by a quality start from right-hander, Jake Woodford. He went 6 innings on 1 unearned run with 3 strikeouts and just 1 walk.
For the second time in as many games, the Chiefs got off to a hot offensive start. Against the typically stingy Cougars' starter, left-hander Cody Reed, the Chiefs posted 3 runs in the second inning.
In his shortest start of the season, Reed was pulled in the third after retiring just one batter in the frame. After an eight-pitch at-bat, Peoria's Eli Alvarez roped a single to center field and scored on an RBI double by R.J. Dennard, making the score 4-0 Chiefs.
Cody Reed pitched 2.1 innings, yielding a season-high 7 hits on 4 runs, all of them earned. He struck out three batters and walked two.
