Miracle on Ice goalie selling his gold medal, mask, skates

NEW YORK (AP) - The goaltender for the U.S. hockey team's 1980 Olympics Miracle on Ice is putting his gold medal up for sale in New York.

Jim Craig also is auctioning the jerseys, mask, skates and stick he used during victories over the Soviet Union and Finland at the Lake Placid Winter Games.

Craig said Tuesday his decision to auction 17 prized possessions has "nothing to do with money." He says the items would have "gone into hibernation" if he kept them.

He says he decided to sell the collection because he "didn't know what to do with it" after it spent years on display in museums.

Craig now works as a motivational speaker in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Lelands.com auction of his hockey gear goes through June 17 and is expected to fetch more than $5 million.
