Varane to miss Euro 2016 with thigh injury
PARIS (AP) - Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will miss the Champions League final and the European Championship with France because of a left thigh injury.
The French Football Federation said that tests on Tuesday confirmed an earlier diagnosis of the injury by Real Madrid.
The FFF said Varane's recovery will take too long for him to be ready for Euro 2016, which starts June 10 with host nation France playing Romania in Group A. He has been replaced by Sevilla defender Adil Rami in France's 23-player squad.
Madrid will try to win its 11th Champions League title when it plays crosstown rival Atletico Madrid next Saturday in Milan.
Rami has made 26 appearances with France but played his last international match with three years ago in a friendly against Brazil.
