Former Illinois judge involved in Gacy, Speck cases dies
GLENVIEW, Ill. (AP) - A former Illinois judge who was involved in the trials of convicted killers John Wayne Gacy and Richard Speck has died.
The daughter of former Cook County Circuit Judge Louis B. Garippo tells the Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/1UhjUPz ) that her father died Tuesday at an assisted living facility in Glenview, outside Chicago. He was 84.
Garippo presided over the 1980 trial of Gacy, who was convicted of killing 33 men and boys and burying 26 of them in his suburban Chicago home. Garippo also was a supervisor in the Cook County state's attorney's office during Speck's murder trial. Speck was convicted in the 1966 killings of eight student nurses in Chicago.
Cook County Judge Michael Kane says that in Garippo's courtroom, "everyone was guaranteed a fair trial."
