Man pleads guilty to Streamwood wedding reception brawl

A 42-year-old California man who prosecutors say was involved in a brawl at a wedding reception in Streamwood pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Vinh Quan Vi was sentenced to a one year of conditional discharge and ordered to pay $399 in fines, according to court records.

Responding in July to a call about a fight, police arrived as Vi and some other men were getting into a vehicle outside a banquet hall on the 700 block of South Barrington Road.

Vi was detained after a security guard identified him as one of the men involved in the fight.

Police at the time said they found a 34-year-old Elgin man inside the banquet hall who had blood on his head and shirt, a cut on his head, and bruising and swelling around his forehead and eyes. The man told police several people jumped him in front of the building and that Vi had punched him in the head several times, a police report said.
