US Senate candidates Bayh, Young set for Oct. 18 debate

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - U.S. Senate candidates Democrat Evan Bayh and Republican Todd Young are set for an hour-long televised debate on Oct. 18.

The nonprofit Indiana Debate Commission announced the debate plans Thursday. It will include Libertarian candidate Lucy Brenton and will be broadcast from public television station WFYI in Indianapolis starting at 7 p.m.

Debate Commission President Dan Byron says the group is working with the candidates to schedule a second debate before the Nov. 8 election. The candidates are seeking to replace retiring Republican Sen. Dan Coats in a race that is drawing millions of dollars in advertising on behalf of Bayh and Young.

Three debates are scheduled for the Indiana gubernatorial candidates. The first is set for Tuesday, with the others Oct. 3 and Oct. 25.
