The Arboretum donates $8,500 to GiGi's Playhouse
The Arboretum of South Barrington has presented a check for $8,500 to GiGi's Playhouse, a national organization that works to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome.
The check represents donations raised through ticket sales at the organization's annual UnCorked event, which was hosted by The Arboretum earlier this summer.
"We are so proud that we have been able to support and be a part of this annual event for eight years," said Monika Kalicki, marketing director at the mall.
"We are especially pleased to present the event's donation during October, which is national Down syndrome month, so we can further draw attention to the tremendous work done by Gigi's Playhouse."
UnCorked is an annual self-guided tour that introduces guests to the area's finest wine, beer, sake and artisan crafted appetizers, all in the spirit of raising money for charitable organizations.
This summer, The Arboretum of South Barrington hosted the eighth annual event, which included specialty shops and restaurants such as Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Georgio's Chicago Pizzeria & Pub, Anna Shea Chocolates and Lounge, L'Effel Bistrot and Creperie, and the restaurant in iPic Theaters run by a five-star chef. UnCorked was sponsored by Toll Brothers - America's Luxury Home Builder this year.
Based in Hoffman Estates, GiGi's Playhouse offers people with Down syndrome a free place to receive tutoring, enjoy special events and receive support and resources. The organization is also involved in advocacy efforts to help change the way the world views people with Down syndrome.
The Arboretum of South Barrington, 100 W. Higgins Road, South Barrington, has more than 65 retailers, including iPic Theaters and HomeGoods.
Additional retailers include Victoria's Secret, White House | Black Market, L. L. Bean, francesca's, DSW, Crazy 8 and more. A palate of restaurants includes Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Ruth's Chris Steak House and Georgio's Chicago Pizzeria & Pub to Panera Bread and Noodles & Company.
