Library table is vintage Arts and Crafts

Q. I am interested in learning the value of the table in this photo. I inherited it from my mother. There is an engraving on it with the words "The Work of L. & J.G. Stickley." The table measures 48 inches long, 26 inches deep and 29 inches tall. There are four pegs that hold the lower shelf to the frame.

Anything you can tell me about the maker, vintage and value of my table will be appreciated.

A. You have an example of an Arts and Crafts movement library table that has a mortise and tenon trestle base. It was made by L. and J.G. Stickley sometime between 1912 and 1918. Leopold and John George Stickley were the brothers of Gustav Stickley, who was an advocate of the Arts and Crafts movement.

Leopold and John George Stickley founded their furniture company in 1902 in Fayetteville, New York, and they are in business today. Arts and Crafts furniture is characterized by simplicity of design, sturdy construction, and mortise and tenon joinery. Oak was the wood of choice.

Your library table would probably be worth $1,200 to $1,500.

Q. This mark is on the bottom of a porcelain figure of a woman. I inherited it from my mother. She is sitting on an ornate scrolled base, has blond hair and is wearing a dress with a blue top and a white skirt decorated with pastel flowers and lace. On her right arm she's holding a basket overflowing with flowers. The figure is 5 inches high including the base. It appears to be hand-painted and is in mint condition.

It was originally given to my mother by a friend who was an antiques dealer. I never asked her about its history and now hope to learn more before I pass it along to my daughter.

Could you tell me something about the maker, where it was made and how old it is?

A. Sitzendorf Porcelain Factory used the mark you enclosed. It has made porcelain and other decorative objects in Thuringia, Germany, since 1845. Much of their work was inspired by early Meissen porcelain.

Your figure was made in the early 20th century, and similar ones can be found selling from $100 to $150.
