The newest Sparrow's Nest Thrift Store and Donation Center opened its doors Tuesday, July 18, in Third Lake. With support from Third Lake Village President Gary Beggan, the Grayslake Chamber of Commerce, the GLMV Chamber of Commerce, and Craig/Steven Development Corporation, the grand opening and ribbon cutting took place at 10 a.m. in front of many waiting customers. The new store is at 34500 N. U.S. Highway 45, north of Washington Street and the College of Lake County.
"I am overwhelmed with the support we have received from the surrounding community, other store managers, volunteers, and new staff," new store manager Chris Ross said. "I had an amazing time showcasing our beautiful new store to all of our customers, donors and supporters yesterday."
Home of the Sparrow has been operating thrift stores since the early 1990s and has six additional Thrift Store and Donation Centers located in Algonquin, Cary, McHenry, Mundelein, Palatine and Woodstock. The Sparrow's Nests support the mission of Home of the Sparrow, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization that provides housing and supportive services to homeless women and children in Northern Illinois. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the stores directly assist Home of the Sparrow programs. The Sparrow's Nests are also a zero cost provider of clothing, furniture and housewares to Home of the Sparrow clients and clients of other neighboring agencies in Northern Illinois.
"Our organization is very grateful for the warm reception we have received from the Village of Third Lake," said Kevin Campbell, vice president of retail for Home of the Sparrow. "We are very excited to begin new relationships with residents, donors and businesses in the area. We are confident that our store will be a great neighbor to Third Lake and surrounding communities as our agency works to reduce homelessness among women and children in Northern Illinois."
For those interested in donating, the store accepts donations at the back entrance during store hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; the store is closed Sundays. Home of the Sparrow also has free furniture donation pick up; to schedule a pickup, call (815) 271-5444, or visit hosparrow.org/sparrows-nest-thrift-stores.
