Baseball: Rolling Meadows holds off York

Rolling Meadows scored 4 runs in the first inning and four more in the fifth before hanging on for its first high school baseball win of the season in an 8-6 victory over visiting York on Monday.

Joe Marcucci (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Brandon Janowicz (2-for-3, 3 RBI, double, 2 runs) were multiple hitters for the Mustangs (1-2-1) while teammates Nate Pardini (double), Joe Coen, Jack Kane and Ryan Lane each contributed a hit.

Kane pitched the final 3⅓ innings, striking out two and giving up 3 hits. Pardini started and struck out six in the first 3⅔ innings while allowing 5 hits.

Barrington 2, Munford 1 (Tenn.): David Mitchell was a force for the Broncos, as he hit a solo homer and doubled to finish with 3 of Barrington's 5 hits.

Mitchell also scored both runs against the Broncos' Tennessee foe in Memphis, Tenn.

Nick Bogaerts pitched 4⅓ innings and got the win, with both Brad Coble and Nate Holler providing effective relief for Barrington (2-1-2).

Buffalo Grove 6, Archbishop Stepinac 1: The Bison won for the second straight day on their spring trip as TJ Constertina and Sean Jacobs drove in 2 runs apiece to better their foe from White Plains, N.Y.

That was more than enough run support for both starter Connor Adams (4 IP, 1 hit) and reliever Matt Brunelli (3 IP, 2 hits), who earned a save.

Prospect 9, Piqua (Ohio) 4: Leadoff man Richie Baczek went 3-for-5 and scored twice and Nick Ergastolo and Tyler Priessing had 2 hits apiece to help the Knights roll in Baseball City in Tampa, Fla.

Anthony Composto was another big bat for Prospect (3-1). He tripled and finished 3-for-3 with 4 RBI.

Huntley 4, Palatine 3 (8 inn.): The host Pirates went scoreless over the final 4 innings as the Red Raiders tied it with a run in the sixth inning and won it with another in the eighth.

Starter Jason Rivera (5 IP) and reliever Thomas Soby (3 IP) both gave up 2 runs for Palatine (6-2).

Jack Betz doubled and drove in 2 runs and Josh Stitt finished 2-for-4.

Fremd 4, WW South 0: Senior starter Ashton Statz and junior reliever Connor Giusti helped keep the visiting Tigers off the scoreboard with strong performances.

Statz allowed 4 hits with 3 strikeout and no walk in 4 innings to get the win, and Giusti allowed no hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks over the final 3 innings in earning a save.

Senior Tom Wingen went 2-for-4 with a triple from the leadoff spot for the Vikes.

Streamwood 6, Schaumburg 5: The visiting Saxons briefly grabbed the lead by scoring once in the top of the fifth inning, but the Sabres answered with 2 of their own in the bottom half for the game's final runs.

Ben Kim doubled and score twice for Schaumburg (2-3), and Jack Lancaster, Joe Unger and Peter Kandefer each drove in 1 run.

Lake Park 12, Elk Grove 1 (5 inn.): The visiting Lancers produced a 7-run third inning in picking up a nonconference win.

Zach Aehlert led the way for Lake Park with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate that included a double and 2 RBI.

Ryne Singsank had a double for Elk Grove (2-1-1), which committed 4 errors.
