Almond Road intersection construction begins in Gurnee

Johnson Paving crews stripped the road surface on Almond Road at Dada Drive on Tuesday in Gurnee, starting a construction project to improve roads and traffic flow issues.

The intersection closure, which began Monday and will continue for six weeks, is part of a $1.2 million project to resurface Almond Road from Grand Avenue to Washington Street.

The project also includes construction of a mini-roundabout that will allow traffic to flow safely without coming to a complete stop in an effort to end backed-up rush hour traffic the plagues the intersection.

Gurnee Village Engineer Scott Drabicki said the village made the decision to go with a mini-roundabout after watching the success of such road designs elsewhere in Lake County.

The village is coordinating with local schools to finish construction before classes begin in August.
