Barb's Rescue Capital Improvement Campaign Update
Since Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center in Palatine first opened their doors in 2014, they have been a safe haven for more than 1,700 cats and kittens that have been abused, abandoned, homeless or neglected. The Rescue provides food, shelter, and medical services - including an on-site veterinarian - all with the hope of finding a forever home for each and every animal in their care. They are 100% supported by public donations and a volunteer staff. They are a not-for-profit, 501(C)(3) organization with ALL funds directly assisting their animals. Barb's Precious Rescue is a no-kill, cage-free shelter.
After a year of meetings with the architects, village officials, and volunteers, the Rescue is excited to announce the first phase of construction is now underway. The expansion will take the Rescue on Quentin Road from 2,200 square feet to roughly 7,500 square feet. Not only will this help them continue their commitment to cats and kittens, but it will allow them to begin helping dogs and puppies, so they will create an entire private area just for them.
Phase I includes the addition of a second story on the entire facility, as well as a two-story addition at the rear of the building with a full walk out lower level. The facility will be ADA compliant and includes an elevator.
Phase II will allow them to build out the upstairs for their Special Needs pets including their elderly/senior population and those living with FIV or other chronic illnesses.
One year ago, the Rescue kicked off its 2017 Capital Improvement Campaign "Expanding the Love." The entire project is estimated at $1,280,000. Phase I is estimated at $780,000 and Phase II at $500,000. The Rescue still needs about $150,000 to complete the fundraising for Phase I.
The Ehlert family has generously donated to cover a majority of the Phase I construction costs. Another very generous donation of $30,000 was provided by the Wayne and Claudette Johnson Family, of Palatine.
There are four ways individuals may donate. First, they may donate directly to the Rescue. Send donations directly to them at Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center, 313 N Quentin Rd, Palatine, IL 60067. (This method allows BPRAC to receive 100% of the donations without bank processing fees).
Second, they may donate via PayPal/Credit Card. A link is provided on their website at barbsrescue.org.
Third, they may donate via the recently created "Go Fund Me" page at: www.GoFundMe.com/BarbsRescue.
Finally, they may purchase a dedication brick. Barb's is offering supporters the opportunity to buy dedication bricks to be a permanent part of the new expansion. Bricks will cost $100 or $250 each with funds going towards their construction costs. Download a brick order form their website. Mail in your form and payment directly to them at 313 N Quentin Rd, Palatine, IL 60067, or scan your form and email it to them at BarbsRescue@aol.com and pay via PayPal. Please indicate under "Add special instructions to seller" - "Brick Purchase - Last Name, First Name".
Barbara Weber, Founder, indicated the Rescue has attracted about 250 volunteers. Many are students at Palatine, Fremd and Lake Zurich high schools. Some earn community service hours at the rescue operation. The Rescue also provides opportunities for adults and children with disabilities to spend time with the cats and kittens, as well as helping with play and care for the animals.
The Rescue has done some really wonderful things for the local community, and with everyone's help, they'll do even more.
