Victim of Crystal Lake fire identified

A 70-year-old man was killed in a fire Monday afternoon in Crystal Lake, authorities said.

Aaron Argullin was found unresponsive inside a home in the 600 block of Sussex Lane and was transported to Northwestern Medicine-Huntley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m., McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said.

An autopsy performed Tuesday afternoon showed smoke and soot inhalation and blunt trauma to his cervical spine. "Final cause and manner of death are pending additional studies. No foul play is suspected at this time," Majewski said.

Crystal Lake fire were called by Crystal Lake Police for a report of fire noticed inside and outside the structure, authorities said.

Crystal Lake police officers pulled out the victim from the home, authorities said.

The blaze was quickly extinguished and caused about $80,000 in damages to the home, authorities said. The cause remains under investigation.

Additional units and firefighters were supplied by Algonquin/Lake in the Hills, Cary and McHenry Township fire protection districts.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshall and the Crystal Lake Fire Department.
