Batavia to host IHSA dance competition Dec. 1

The Batavia Dance Team will host an Illinois High School Association competition on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Batavia High School.

The competition, with the theme, "Dance to the Moon, Reach for the Stars," will feature routines from 18 teams from 1A, 2A and 3A schools, representing St. Charles, Elgin, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Aurora, Villa Park and other Chicago area communities.

Batavia's varsity team, coached by Angela Fuqua, will present "Toxic," a jazz routine; and "Waves," their lyrical routine, which recently placed at the Andrews Competition in Tinley Park.

The Batavia High School junior varsity team, coached by Gia Peckhart, will perform their pom routine, "Ain't Nothing Wrong with That," and jazz routine, "Run."

Varsity coach Angela Fuqua is excited to see the performances of the other schools attending as the 2018-2019 competition season gets underway.

Following competitive routines, Soleunique Dance Complex's Sole Squad will also perform.

The competition starts at 10:30 a.m. at the school, 1201 Main St.

The community is welcome to attend. Admission is $8 or $5 for seniors. All Batavia Public School students and children under 5 are free.
