'The Sound of Music' fills Grant High in Fox Lake
Students at Grant Community High School in Fox Lake are bringing the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic musical "The Sound of Music" to life with three performances this weekend.
The cast and crew ran through a dress rehearsal Wednesday in preparation for Friday's opening night.
"I selected the 'Sound of Music' because it features 20 roles for lead and supporting actors, which is a very large amount of actual roles for a high school production," director Beth Suehr said. "We had several talented students we wanted to feature."
The cast features 43 students. Seven others are in the orchestra, and 40 are part of the technical crew in charge of lighting, sound, sets, props and costumes. The production includes more than 120 costumes, many of the which were designed and constructed by Grant students.
"The Sound of Music" is loosely based on the Von Trapp family that fled the Nazi regime in Austria during World War II.
Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the school, 285 E. Grant Ave, Fox Lake. Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $7 for adults. They're available online at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?show=98796 or at the door.
