Judge quickly rules Obama library can proceed

U.S. District Judge John Blakey had promised to quickly resolve the legal challenge that loomed over the Obama Presidential Center.

And he apparently meant it.

In a surprisingly swift decision Tuesday, Blakey tossed a lawsuit filed by the advocacy group Protect Our Parks that has helped to delay the Obama Center. He said there "should be no delay" in construction and ended an hour of arguments with a terse "this case is dismissed."

The judge also promised to hand down a written opinion later in the day.

Blakey's decision does not completely eliminate the challenge to the former president's proposal for 19.3 acres carved out of historic Jackson Park. Moments after leaving the courtroom, Protect Our Parks lawyer Mark Roth promised an appeal.
