Volcano facts
The June 12 article on Volcanoes written by J. Hope Babowice was a good-faith effort to inform young readers, but was off on a couple of its facts. Mount St. Helens is a composite volcano, not a cinder volcano. There's a significant difference in composition and how they form. Also, when she listed the major types of volcanoes, she listed composite and stratovolcanoes as different and distinct from each other. Actually, geologists use these terms interchangeably. They are synonymous with each other. (Just don't want any budding young geologists to be misguided or get these questions wrong on a test.)
