Izaak Walton League to host annual ice cream social Aug. 25
The Elgin chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will host its annual ice cream social fundraiser from noon to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Hanover Township Izaak Walton Center, 899 Jay St. in Elgin.
A donation of $3 includes homemade cakes and ice cream. There also will be a raffle and silent auction items.
The donations are used for conservation projects locally such as Arbor Day festivities, Fish for Fun and many others. The Izaak Walton League also sponsors Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and a Venture Crew.
On July 19, the Elgin chapter received the "Defenders Chapter Achievement 20th Consecutive Year Recognition Award" at the 97th annual Izaak Walton League of America National Convention.
The award is given for two decades of continued successful chapter programs promoting membership, education, conservation, youth involvement, community outreach through communications, and the principles of financial support through contributions.
