Westmont Joyful Voices to present 'Broadway and Beyond' concert Sept. 22

The Westmont Joyful Voices Show Group, under the direction of Jim Molina, will be performing "Broadway and Beyond" in concert.

Ticket and concession sales will go toward the Alzheimer's Association and help raise money for the continuing program of the Westmont Joyful Voices Show Group, part of the Westmont Park District seniors program.

The concert will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Westmont High School auditorium, 909 Oakwood Drive, Westmont.

The show runs 90 minutes and there will be an intermission. General admission is $15 for ages 5 or older.

There will be concessions available during the intermission.

For the past 18 years, this group of over 35-40 senior singers (ranging from age 60 or older) has been delivering wonderful live performances to senior assisted living centers and retirement communities. They perform up to 18 shows every summer in the DuPage and Cook county area from May until October.

As part of the senior program at the Westmont Park District, this group of dedicated singers and performers rehearse weekly at the park district from October through May to prepare for these inspiring and entertaining shows.

Music director Jim Molina of Downers Grove is in his second year of leading the chorus and providing musical direction. Founding member Joe VanHootegem, also of Downers Grove, will be the emcee of the show, leading the audience through every song.

Some musical selections include an 8-minute medley from "The Wizard of Oz," "The Sound of Silence," "Razzle Dazzle" from "Chicago," "One" from "Cabaret," as well as songs from "Les Miserables," "Phantom of the Opera," and many more.

The concert is filled with a variety of comedy and serious songs, sure to please an all-ages audience.

As a senior-aged chorus, members know personally and firsthand the toll that Alzheimer's takes on our society. It is for this reason that the Joyful Voices Show Group feels the calling to perform a benefit concert on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association.
