Naperville asking for downtown streetscape input

Naperville's Transportation, Engineering and Development Business Group will hold a second public input session Tuesday, Oct. 29, to share updated designs for the first phase of the Downtown Streetscape Project improvements.

The session is open to the public and scheduled from 4 to 7:30 p.m. in the NEU meeting room at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St.

Following the first public meeting on Sept. 4, the project consultant, CivilTech Engineering Inc., and city staff members evaluated public comments and performed additional engineering analysis to develop a preferred alternative.

During the Oct. 29 session, city and CivilTech representatives will provide a brief presentation summarizing the process to date and design components of the preferred alternative.

Presentations will be made around 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. and the same information will be provided at each session.

Updated exhibit boards will be displayed and staff and consultants will be available to provide project details, answer questions and receive feedback during this open house-style event.

Feedback will be considered in the development of the final streetscape design and construction documents.

The proposed project aims to rebuild sections of Webster, Jefferson, Main and Jackson to downtown streetscape standards.

The construction, which tentatively is scheduled to begin next spring, includes utility repair and upgrades, streetscape modernization, complete road reconstruction and pavement upgrades for Jefferson Avenue, Main Street and Jackson Avenue in the downtown core.

The new design also will include changing the existing angled parking on Main Street and Jefferson Avenue to parallel parking. These updates will improve pedestrian mobility, accessibility and safety.

Project information and exhibit boards are available at www.naperville.il.us/dtstreetscape.

Those unable to attend a public input session may send feedback to nicholsc@naperville.il.us until Friday, Nov. 8.
