Community outreach program to feature housing resource fair Nov. 6
On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the DuPage County Continuum of Care will host a community outreach program from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 317 W. Willow Ave., Wheaton.
The program will feature a discussion on homeless students' rights, and an update on available resources to help with utility bills, such as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the Nicor Gas Sharing Program.
Heather Britton, a McKinney-Vento Student Advocate for the DuPage County Regional Office of Education, will talk about the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and the education rights of students in homeless situations.
There also will be a discussion on the best practices for helping the homeless or preventing a homeless situation from occurring.
They also will offer an update on the Winter PADS program.
A housing resource fair will feature representatives from: Bridge Communities, DuPage County Community Services, HOME DuPage, Outreach Community Services, Prairie State Legal Services, Catholic Charities, DuPage PADS, LOVE Christian Clearinghouse, Loaves & Fishes Community Services, People's Resource Center, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and Veterans Assistance Commission.
