Schaumburg to mull vaping law in 2020

Schaumburg's public safety committee will take up the issue of youth vaping at its next meeting Jan. 9, with the possibility that the discussion could lead to new or stronger regulations, as well as more frequent enforcement checks.

The matter was referred to the public safety committee after a preliminary discussion by the village board's committee of the whole Tuesday.

That discussion was based on data provided by Police Chief Bill Wolf on the government-documented health effects of e-cigarettes and vaping nationwide, as well as the number of citations issued for possession and usage of vaping materials at Schaumburg High School.

Over the past three semesters the school resource officer at Schaumburg High has issued more than 30 such citations, in addition to the confiscation of vaping devices by school officials without police involvement, Wolf reported.
