FBLA students from Mundelein teach about American enterprise
Mundelein High School students participating in the American Enterprise Project, a Future Business Leaders of America competitive chapter event, are off to the races to educate the community about the five pillars of American Enterprise and being an informed and smart consumer.
Seniors MacKenzie Stewart and Sofia Feijoo and junior Ilya Vynnyk are the leaders of the project, assisted by a committee of other FBLA members. They visited local businesses in the community to hand out "thank you" cards as a way to show appreciation to small-businesses in Mundelein.
Visits included Debbie's Flower Shop, Park Street Restaurant, Fresh Cafe and Carnitas Don Chuy, among others.
Upcoming events include visiting Fremont Middle School to help educate students about the American capitalist economy. They plan to use Kahoot, an online quiz website; Four Corners, an opinion-based game; and a "Swat a Pillar" activity, where students have to hit the square containing the correct answer with a fly-swatter.
The American Enterprise committee visited Fremont Middle School last year and was extremely pleased to see that students were eager to participate.
Another event hosted by the American Enterprise Committee is holding a fair at Mundelein High School revolving around local business leaders, who will be invited to attend, and students involved in a business incubator class.
Students will have the opportunity to meet with small business owners to discuss their own efforts in starting their company. Other students from MHS will also be able to see the incubator projects the students have been working on.
MHS students hope to continue to educate all grade levels about the key values that form the base of the economy and promote interest in the American Enterprise and capitalism.
