Frank pours in 32, Mundelein wins in OT
Mundelein's girls basketball team is enjoying its best stretch of the season.
Morgan Frank poured in a career-high 32 points, and the visiting Mustangs outlasted Waukegan 63-55 in overtime on Saturday night.
Mundelein improved to 7-19 and 2-9 in the North Suburban Conference by winning for the third time in its last four games.
Frank - who had a 31-point game earlier in the season - also had 10 rebounds, 6 blocks, 6 steals and 3 assists. She sank two 3-pointers.
Damia Ali added 12 points for Mundelein, while Allison Binz had 10 points and 6 rebounds. The sophomore Binz has scored in double figures in five straight games. She had no double-digit scoring efforts in the Mustangs' first 21 games this season.
Stevenson 55, Zion-Benton 49: Ava Bardic's 16 points led four players in double figures for the visiting Patriots in the North Suburban Conference game.
Simone Sawyer added 15 points for the Patriots (21-7, 7-4), who won for the ninth time in their last 10 games. Nikki Ware had 12 points on four 3-pointers, and Avery King scored 10 points.
Libertyville 52, Warren 35: Margaret Buchert and Lauren Huber each scored 14 points to lead the visiting Wildcats to the North Suburban Conference win.
Lydia Crow added 9 points for Libertyville (20-4, 10-1), which stretched its winning streak to 16 games.
"This was a physical game," Wildcats coach Greg Pedersen said. "Warren played tough."
Micaila Kline led Warren (9-18, 3-8) with 10 points.
Lake Forest 39, Lake Zurich 31: Halle Douglass had 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks for the host Scouts in the North Suburban Conference game.
Finola Summerville added 12 points for Lake Forest (20-8, 8-3).
Lake Zurich (14-9, 7-3) received 8 points apiece from Alayna Soukup and Margaret Spear.
Antioch 42, Grayslake North 39: Avery Larson had 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, and the visiting Sequoits rallied to avenge an earlier-season loss in Northern Lake County Conference action.
It was the third straight win for Antioch (11-13, 6-5), which trailed by double digits in the first quarter and was down 12-4 heading into the second quarter. Gianna Riforgiato picked up 8 points and dished out 4 assists, and Hailey Webb played solid defense throughout the game, picking off 4 passes, while also handing out 5 assists.
Peyton Gerdes scored 17 points to lead Grayslake North (8-18, 3-8), which dropped its seventh game in a row.
Grant 60 North Chicago 44: Jazzlyn Linbo had 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists, and the visiting Bulldogs won in Northern Lake County Conference action to snap a five-game losing streak.
Kylie Whyte had 10 points and 6 rebounds for Grant (13-12, 7-4). Cora Hughs contributed 9 points.
Carmel 77, Amundsen 22: At Kaneland, Jordan Wood scored 19 points, and the Corsairs snapped a three-game losing streak in the Cure for Cancer Shootout.
Mia Gillis added 14 points for Carmel (18-8), and Grace Sullivan had 12,
Fenwick 58, Carmel 50: On Friday night, Jordan Wood scored a career-high 24 points in the visiting Corsairs' East Suburban Catholic Conference loss.
Kaytlyn Matz had 12 points for Carmel (3-4 ESCC).
Deerfield 38, Vernon Hills 35: On Friday night, the host Warriors stopped the Cougars' six-game winning streak in a Central Suburban League North Division game.
Brynn Ziemke had 10 points for Vernon Hills (15-9, 6-3).
"It was a tough, physical game and we came up short," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said. "We need to fix our turnovers and do so quickly as the end of the season is approaching."
