Voter suppression
Voter suppression is alive and on display in the state of Illinois. Many of our most vulnerable population to the coronavirus, senior citizens, may not be showing up to vote for fear of contracting the coronavirus. The governor has called a state of emergency and ordered all K-12 schools closed. However, he has not delayed the primary vote.
There's more at stake in this election than just the respective presidential candidates, there are referendums that senior citizens will undoubtedly miss out on and not be represented by. Polling places that are usually held in senior complexes have been relocated. People can't go to senior facilities to vote for fear of infecting seniors, but it's acceptable for seniors to go to other facilities to vote and possibly be infected.
Obviously, many seniors won't be willing to risk their health in order to exercise their right to vote. The state of Louisiana has postponed their election scheduled for April 4 to June 20. Louisiana will not be suppressing the senior vote unlike Illinois.
