Clubhouse Chatter: How our writers are filling the void

What our columnists and sportswriters have to say as they wait for the games to resume.

How are you filling the void during your nonworking hours with no sports on TV?

I'm watching all the great old-time games and features that the sports-related cable stations are offering. Also reading old sports books and been listening to all the sports-related news as to what events are postponing and what kind of timetables are being set for their return in the future.

Of course, it would be fun if there was a high school cable station that was showing some of the classic prep games that I covered in the 1980s and '90s and even the ones I watched as a little kid in the 1960s and '70s!

Ping-Pong. Lots of it. I've got a freshman in high school and eighth-grader and we'll be ready for Forrest Gump by the time COVID-19 is under control.

During extremely busy prep football and basketball seasons I fell woefully behind on my favorite television shows. Thank goodness. There are plenty of them that drifted by as I spent the bulk of my time on sidelines and in the stands. With no sports to watch - and I love the NCAA tournament and the Cubs - my wife and I are finally able to make a dent in the DVR and shrink the queues in our favorite streaming services. So THAT'S what happened on "Succession."

Sleep! Seriously, while sleep occupies much of my nonwork experience, without that late-night DVR of the Blackhawks to watch I spend much time engaged in another big passion, music. I can't play a lick, but I can watch music videos with the best of 'em. Though my age positions me in the "Classic Rock" era - Rush is my favorite band - my focus is geared toward the latest releases in various genres of rock 'n' roll. Through aggregate review websites, and publications and critics both in print and online, I seek out contemporary artists, create a list of the current year's favorite albums and singles, and spend hours diving into YouTube wormholes.
