President cares only about his ratings
In response to Dushan Lipensky's letter to the editor, "Unwillingness to accept election hurts country": Even though I did not vote for President Trump, like most Americans, I did accept his legal election. What I am having a terribly difficult time accepting though is his constant bravado, his "I" and "me" attitude and his incessant lying. Have our past Republican and Democratic presidents been perfect? Far from it. Did they have egos? All politicians do. Have they lied or at minimum worked around the truth on certain issues? Yes, I'm sure they did.
However, from the very beginning of our nation through this pandemic, each of our presidents has faced issues that common people like you and I would probably find totally vexing. But they stood up and responded, because they were our leaders.
The two foremost in my mind are President Bush standing amid the rubble of the World Trade Center when he said, "I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon." And the look on President Obama's face the night he announced the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Did both make mistakes of judgment in their presidencies? Oh, did they. The point though is all of our presidents have. But they don't stand at a microphone continually blaming others for their own mistakes and out and out lying.
And only our duly elected president can say such things as, "I want to come way under the models," referring to casualty projections. "The professionals did the models. I was never involved in a model." "At least this kind of model" Really? And when thousands are dying. Wow.
Does anything make an impression on him except his ratings?
