President's critics are those who shun truth
If there's one thing I've learned since President Trump took office, it's this: his detractors/haters often use half-truths and outright distortions in order to accuse him of constantly lying.
For example, in Mark Hellner's recent letter, we have this: "The Trump administration was warned of the danger by internal experts in January yet did nothing of consequence until mid-March." Obviously, he's forgotten all of the attacks on President Trump, accusing him of racism/xenophobia in late January and early February. And why was that? In January, he ordered all flights from China to the U.S. halted, effective Feb. 2. Or is that decision "nothing of consequence?"
And by the way, at this same time wasn't Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats talking up the Chinese New Year's celebration and encouraging attendance? What about Mardi Gras? Canceled? Nope.
And then we have this: "The president called COVID-19 a hoax created by Democrats and the media." Really? I'm no big fan of Snopes, but when even they disagree with statements like that, well, something's hokey. Here's what they had to say about that: "During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats' criticism of his administration's response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying 'this is their new hoax.'" The criticism of his response to the virus was what he called "their new hoax," not the virus itself.
To finish off, I'll quote Mark Hellner's letter: "Misusing and distorting facts is political." Indeed. Physician, heal thyself.
