District 15 adding virtual meetings to distance learning

Palatine Township Elementary District 15 plans to implement the virtual meeting platform Google Meet on Monday, April 20 for face-to-face interactions between students and teachers as COVID-19 social restrictions continue.

According to a message to parents from Superintendent Laurie Heinz, teachers are learning how to properly utilize the security features of Google Meet to ensure meetings remain private to only students and staff invited to participate.

Though teachers are expected to be reaching out to students and parents directly with information about the virtual meetings, families also will have the right to opt out.

Introducing this new tool was pursued after district officials heard a resounding desire for more video-based and virtual instruction during the coronavirus outbreak, Heinz said.
