Good Shepherd Hospital Partners With Food Delivery Services to Provide Hot Meals

The Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital has partnered with local food pantries to provide hot meals to those in need.

The Maintain and Sustain program allows community members to purchase gift cards through Grub Hub, Door Dash or Uber Eats and donate them directly to participating food pantries, who will then distribute the gift cards to individuals and families in need of a hot meal.

Food pantries continue to serve the community, but this program offers an additional way to mitigate food insecurity. Earlier this week, one pantry was able to send a gift card digitally to an individual who was in isolation due to being positive for Covid-19. Within an hour, this person was able to have hot soup and a sandwich, without having to leave his home.

"This program supplements our multi-pronged approach to care for the people in our community, while also supporting our local restaurants. It is truly a win-win situation and we are grateful to be part of it", said Rafael Malpica, Community Relations Director at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.

Technology support will be provided by the staff at the Advocate Good Shepherd Health & Fitness for those who need help navigating the digital gift cards or food delivery apps. Malpica said the assistance from the fitness center staff will help ensure the program is accessible to all, without putting more work on the food pantries.

The following food pantries are accepting digital gift cards as part of the Maintain and Sustain program:
