Downers Grove Township breaks ground on senior center

Downers Grove Township hosted a groundbreaking ceremony June 5 for its long-planned Multi-Purpose Senior Center which is set to open this winter. The Multi-Purpose Senior Center will be located at 4340 Prince St. in Downers Grove.

"It's nothing fancy, mainly publicly accessible, ADA compliant spaces for our partners, and our Human and Senior Service meetings and events," said Supervisor Mark Thoman. "These are spaces we currently do not have, and very much need."

"We look forward to serving as many Downers Grove Township seniors as possible," said Executive Director Marylin Krolak.

Once the Multi-Purpose Senior Center opens, the DuPage Senior Citizens Council will provide lunch for older adults 60 and over. The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is not only addressing hunger and food insecurity among older adults, but it is also fighting loneliness and social isolation.

Eileen Fitzgerald, an emeritus board member on the DuPage Senior Citizens Council, represented the council at the ceremony.

The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is a nonprofit 501(c)3, volunteer-driven organization, dedicated to helping seniors live with safety and dignity. Since 1975, it has provided a variety of services for seniors, including home delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), community dining, minor home repairs, contractor referrals, yard cleanup, health and wellness education, and well-being checks.
