Cary Parks cancels Summer Celebration; Concerts in the Park still on
Due to limitations on gathering sizes and social distancing guidelines, Summer Celebration, Cary's largest summer event set for Friday, July 3, has been cancelled. This includes both the event hosted at Lions Park plus the fireworks presentation. On Saturday, July 11, the Cary Park District will host "Kaper Park + Unplug Illinois Day + Sidewalk Chalk Contest" from noon to 3 p.m. at Kaper Park, Georgetown and Cimarron drive. Join the park district's first Sidewalk Chalk Contest while you "Party in the Park!" Each contestant will receive a sidewalk space at Kaper Park and a box of chalk. One participant per space. Contestants will be given 2 hours to complete their masterpiece. Judging will begin at 2:30 p.m. and prizes will be awarded in the following age groups: 10 & under, 11 -17 and 18 and over. Cary Park District's 2020 Concerts in the Park & Children's Entertainment Series will be held at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Lions Park, 1200 Silver Lake Road. On July 9, the Saturday June Band, who have been rocking Chicago for over 20 years, will perform.
On July 16, Genr8r will perform classic rock, country, funk, and pop. On July 23, Serendipity will perform pop rock. On July 30, The Flat Cats will bring their swing jazz, blues, and contemporary sound to Lions Park.
On Aug. 6, Ethan Bell Band will perform pop, hip hop, and country.
The Children's Entertainment Series will be at noon Fridays, July 17 and 30. It will be Miss Jamie's Farm on July 17, and Todd Downing on July 31. Visit www.carypark.com.
