Signal Hill, NSDAR Resumes Fundraising to Honor Veterans

The adaptations required of us during the current pandemic are not that different from those required EVERY day of service by US military forces - fear of the unknown, limited access to family, friends and every day services, unfamiliar and often uncomfortable clothing, limited travel.

American citizens have established days of the year to remember and honor those sacrifices willingly made by the soldiers, sailors and airmen who change their lives to protect our freedoms. Unfortunately, this year our Memorial Day and July Fourth celebrations have been canceled or "downsized" in the abundance of caution.

There remains a means of showing appreciation for the men and women who served. The Signal Hill, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Chapter of Barrington will once again partner with Wreaths Across America to hold a memorial ceremony on Dec. 19, at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington, followed with a wreath laying ceremony on the gravesites of the more than 500 veterans interred there. Wreaths are purchased by the chapter with donations raised from Barrington area citizens and groups to Remember, Honor and Teach the value of freedom.

Your generosity in donating during this time of cancelled public events will be greatly appreciated by the community and the families of the veterans buried at Evergreen. The Memorial Ceremony and wreath laying is an outdoor event which will accommodate social distancing, should that be necessary.

Please consider the Wreaths Across America 2020 slogan, "Be an American worth fighting for" when thinking about how you can show your support for the veterans who have served their country.
