2,149 confirmed Illinois COVID-19 cases with 20 more deaths
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday placed a ``warning label'ť on 30 of the state's 102 counties as officials announced 2,149 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 20 confirmed deaths.
The deaths reported raised the state's death toll since March to 7,997. The latest cases in Illinois were confirmed from among 48,383 tests, keeping the state's testing positivity rate over the last week at 4.1%.
The counties given warnings are Bureau, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Cook, Cumberland, Effingham, Fayette, Greene, Grundy, Henderson, Henry, Jasper, Jersey, Jo Daviess, Johnson, Madison, Monroe, Morgan, Perry, Pike, Randolph, Sangamon, Shelby, St. Clair, Union, Warren, White, Will, and Williamson.
Health officials place a warning label on a county when the area reports rising 'œrisk indicators.'ť There are varied reasons for counties are given warnings. However, some of the common factors are increased cases and outbreaks associated with weddings and other large gatherings, transmission within households, cases in long-term care facilities and travel to neighboring states.
The counties given warnings may also see new COVID-19 cases above the state-set target of 50 new cases per 100,000 people. The state's also has a goal that the number of deaths declines or remains level from week to week.
