2,145 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Illinois, 32 deaths
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday reported 2,145 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 32 confirmed fatalities.
The new cases came as 30 of Illinois' 102 counties reached two or more benchmarks that indicate COVID-19 is spreading there.
The total number of known infections in Illinois is 257,788, and the statewide death toll is 8,273 since the start of the pandemic.
Friday's cases were the result of 56,661 tests, resulting in a seven-day statewide positivity rate for COVID-19 of 3.9 percent. There have been 4,632,382 tests conducted in Illinois.
As of late Thursday, 1,619 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 359 patients were in intensive care units and 155 patients were on ventilators.
