Brad Schneider declared winner over Republican challenger
Democratic incumbent Brad Schneider has retained his 10th U.S. congressional seat over Republican challenger Valerie Ramirez Mukherjee, the Associated Press has declared.
Unofficial results show Schneider garnering 60% of the vote, with 139,196, over Ramirez Mukherjee's 40% or 92,622, with 100% of the precincts reporting.
Those tallies do not include thousands of mail-in ballots that have yet to arrive. Ballots postmarked by Tuesday will be counted if they arrive by Nov. 17.
Schneider, of Deerfield, is finishing up his third term in Congress and has pushed for additional federal COVID-19 relief funding.
Ramirez Mukherjee, of Northbrook, is a first-time candidate has been critical of Illinois politicians, saying they haven't done enough at the federal level.
The 10th District includes parts of Lake and Cook counties. It stretches from Lake Michigan into the North and Northwest suburbs.
