Roselle mayor won't seek reelection in 2021

Roselle Mayor Andy Maglio will not seek reelection in April for a second 4-year term.

Maglio, elected in 2017 after serving on the planning and zoning commission for more than 24 years and as a village trustee for eight years, said he will look to new leaders to guide Roselle forward.

"It was definitely a tough decision, but I realized that it was time for me to retire," Maglio said Friday. "I want to do things I enjoy while I'm capable of doing them."

Maglio has not yet endorsed any candidates to replace him in the April 6 election. The first candidate to announce a run for mayor is Trustee David Pileski.

"Andy has been a fixture in our community for decades," Pileski said of Maglio's announcement. "It's been a highlight for me to both learn and serve with him."

Filings to run for mayor, the three open trustee positions and village clerk will begin on Monday.

Maglio, 68, was born in Addison and has worked in Roselle for more than 41 years. He owns the locksmith shop Action Lock and Key Inc.

During his tenure, Maglio and village staff established several redevelopment districts with tax subsidies meant to create economic growth in the village. One of his first projects as mayor was establishing the East Irving Park Road redevelopment district, which economically connected the Town Center/Main Street area to the Roselle Metra station.

The latest development Maglio is excited for is the Metro 19 apartment complex located at the southeast corner of Lawrence Avenue and Irving Park Road. The proposed $80 million project includes a five-story, 293-unit apartment complex with a parking garage.

"Over the past four years, the board of trustees and I have tackled many issues to advance the village and position it for further success in the years ahead," Maglio said in a statement. "

"The village's future is very bright," Maglio said. "While I will no longer be an elected official after I complete my term in May, I plan to continue to support the community that I love in new ways."
