Santa brings his delivery skills to curbside pickup customers in Elgin

Aldi shoppers who ordered for curbside pickup Friday in Elgin got a special guest deliveryman.

With a shopping cart decked out like a sleigh, Santa delivered orders to customers' cars from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The surrogate Santa didn't want to give out his real name. "I called in sick from work today to do this," he said. He added it was his first time donning the outfit but thought it suited him.

Santas will be curbside at four other area Aldi stores in addition to the Elgin location through Sunday, including stores in Palatine, Plainfield, Tinley Park and Wheaton. Shoppers who place a curbside grocery order for pickup from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on those days will get to meet Santa as he brings out their groceries. He'll also pose outside their car for a free, socially distant photo.
