Glenview briefs
Christmas tree recycling
Glenview residents can bring their Christmas trees to seven different locations for recycling. The trees will be used either as mulch for parks or submerged in Lake Glenview to be used as fish habitat.
Collection points are: Glenview Public Works Service Center, 2498 E. Lake Ave.; Johns Park, 2102 Central Road; Flick Park, 3600 Glenview Road; Cunliff Park, 560 Echol Lane; Cole Park, 1031 Kenilworth Ave.; Willow Park, 2600 Greenwood Ave.; Gallery Park, 2001 Patriot Blvd.
Ornaments, lights and tinsel should be removed from all trees, and they should not be covered by plastic disposal bags.
Worthy cause
Just before Christmas break kicked in, Dr. Brian Wegley, supervisor of Northbrook/Glenview District 30, released his year's end message to families. It included a note about donations to the Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation.
The foundation, a nonprofit fundraising organization of parents from Glenview School District 34, has currently been working to support District 34 families who've been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, in this case with rental assistance. Through Jan. 15 donations made to the foundation will aid this cause. The foundation can also use volunteers.
Send donations to the Debra Gelfand Children's Foundation, P.O. Box 368, Glenview, IL 60025.
Police report of the week
Glenview Police also said that on Dec. 22, an employee on the 2800 block of Patriot Boulevard - which matches an auto dealership - reported that a male and female took a 2021 black Dodge Challenger for a test drive and never returned. Multiple attempts to reach the male by phone were unsuccessful, police stated. The total reported loss is $60,005.
