Bulls rookie Williams fired up about Sky signing Parker
Before November's NBA draft, Bulls rookie Patrick Williams filmed a segment of him being interviewed by a holographic Diana Taurasi.
Williams revealed to a virtual Taurasi that he's a longtime WNBA fan, because his mother Janie played basketball at Johnson C. Smith University, a Division II school in Charlotte, N.C. So Williams was asked this week what he thought about the Chicago Sky signing WNBA legend and Naperville native Candace Parker.
"I'm excited to watch," Williams said. "Hopefully they can have some fans and I'll be able to get in there and see some games. But man, I'm just excited to have her come back and it's huge for all of Chicago, honestly. And it's also huge for the WNBA just to have a legend like that come back to her hometown and hopefully win some games here, so I'm just excited to see what it's like."
Williams' hometown of Charlotte had one of the original WNBA teams, the Charlotte Sting, but that franchise folded in 2007. So he's a free agent when it comes to a favorite team.
"I like to watch them all," he said. "I don't really have a favorite team I would say. But I mean I'm just a huge supporter of the whole WNBA and just seeing women kind of break barriers that have been up for a long time. I'm just a huge supporter and fan of the WNBA and those women."
