League to host forum for Bloomingdale Township candidaes Feb. 28

The League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale and the DuPage County NAACP will host a virtual forum for Bloomingdale Township candidates on Sunday, Feb. 28.

It will begin at 1 p.m. via Zoom. This virtual event is an opportunity for you to ask questions and learn more about the credentials and platforms of candidates running in the April 6 Consolidated Election.

The following candidates have been invited:

• Township supervisor: Terrell Barnes and Michael D. Hovde Jr.

• Town Clerk: Branka Poplonski and Wichitthree Thongsen

• Trustees: Michael McGinn, Mohammed Mortoja, Michael L. Murray, Heather Pransky, Dave Rogers, Tom Suhrbur, and Robert P. Tolentino

The candidate forum is free and open to the public, but registration in advance is required.

If the registration for the event exceeds the Zoom capacity, you can go to the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale Facebook page at the time of the event to watch it live. After the candidate forum, a video will be available at www.lwvrb.org.

Because of the virtual format, send your questions for candidates to lwvrbmail@gmail.com by Sunday, Feb. 21.

The League provides candidate forums for contested races only. All candidate forums are impartially moderated by trained, nonpartisan volunteers. Each candidate is given two minutes to present their opening statement. Lots are drawn prior to the forum to determine the order.

Questions are solicited in advance from League members, community members, and nonpartisan groups. They are reviewed by the League for appropriateness, relevance, and redundancy before the forum. The moderator asks questions in rotation so that each candidate has equal opportunities to be the first to answer. Equal time is given to all candidates to answer each question. After all questions are responded to, each candidate is given one minute to share their closing statement.

If only one candidate for a contested race is present, they will be limited to a timed statement of introduction.

Formed in 2012, the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale provides information on topics that impact local, state and federal government. The League works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League, celebrating 100 years of experience, has grown to more than 800 local and state affiliations. The League does not support, endorse or oppose political candidates. Membership in the League is open to men and women ages 16 and older.
