Carpentersville man gets 9 years in prison for child sex assault

A 37-year-old Carpentersville man will spend 9 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child, the Kane County state's attorney's office said in a news release Friday.

Nelson V. Ramos, of the 1-99 block of Ash Street, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a felony.

Ramos must serve at least 85% of his sentence and receives credit for 1,217 days served in the Kane County jail. He must register for life as a sexual offender.

Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Tyler Cox stated in court that from August 2017 to October 2017, Ramos sexually assaulted a child he knew. The child was younger than 13 years old.

"I want to commend this young victim for the courage she showed in disclosing this abuse to her mother, who immediately contacted the police," State's Attorney Jamie Mosser said in the release. "Too many survivors of sexual abuse are denied justice because those who can help them choose not to believe them when they share their story of abuse. I'm grateful that wasn't the case here."
