Wheeling's mayoral and trustee candidates to meet Saturday in virtual forum
Candidates for Wheeling village president and village trustee will debate issues facing the town Saturday in a pair of online forums.
The League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Buffalo Grove will host the virtual discussions, which are set to start at 1 p.m. For links, visit lwvah.org and look for the Wheeling-related events.
The village president candidates will go on first, with their session running until 2 p.m.
Two candidates are running: incumbent Pat Horcher, who's seeking a second term, and challenger Mark Smith.
The trustee candidates will go next, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Six candidates are running for three seats on the board: incumbents Mary Krueger, Mary Papantos and Jim Ruffatto; and challengers Laura Rodriguez, Kim Scanlon and Lee Waller.
Horcher and the incumbent trustee candidates are informally running as a group using the slogan "Keep Wheeling Rolling." It's the same slogan Krueger, Papantos and other candidates used when they ran in 2017.
Smith and the trustee challengers formed a slate called Moving Wheeling Forward.
The League of Women Voters chapter has scheduled many more candidate forums between now and Election Day, including ones for the Arlington Heights Memorial Library board on March 9, the Elk Grove Township Elementary School District 59 board on March 10 and the Arlington Heights village board on March 13.
