College of DuPage faculty and staff receive 2021 Awards for Excellence in Teaching

Ten College of DuPage faculty and staff members are recipients of the 2021 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award. The award recognizes community and technical college faculty, staff and administrators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues.

Honorees include Adjunct Faculty member of Photography Tim Arroyo, Buyer Susan Castellanos, Associate Professor of Chemistry Cory DiCarlo, Manager of Institutional Advancement Ellen Farrow, Adjunct Faculty member of Philosophy Adam Hogan, Adjunct Faculty member of Adult Basic Education Jill McAllister, Adjunct Faculty member of Accounting Aisling Lockhart, Adjunct Faculty member of English Ashley Ott, Assistant Photography Professor Katherine Sifers and Adjunct Faculty member of English Language Studies/Adult Basic Education Dawn Weeks.

College of DuPage President Dr. Brian Caputo said the NISOD honors highlight COD's ongoing work in supporting today's students and meeting them where they are in life to achieve their goals.

"At College of DuPage, we wholeheartedly believe in the power of education and helping all students reach their multi-faceted dreams and aspirations," he said. "Our faculty and staff are exceptional at what they do and work extremely hard to underscore our mission, which is centered on teaching and learning."

Provost Mark Curtis-Chavez also praised the educators for their commitment to student success.

"All of the honorees being recognized exemplify the important work being done at College of DuPage and are a testament to the role of education in improving students' lives," he said.

Award recipients will be recognized during NISOD's annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, to be held virtually April 28 to 30.

"Recognizing those individuals who have contributed to student success and their colleges' mission is something we look forward to doing each year," said NISOD's Executive Director Edward J. Leach. "The extraordinary work of these men and women includes not only what they do for their students and colleagues, but what they do for the communities in which they live and work. We're honored to be able to play a part in celebrating their achievements."

NISOD is a membership organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning and leadership at community and technical colleges. NISOD provides faculty-focused programs and resources for community and technical colleges that want to make the most of their professional development dollars.

College of DuPage is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Serving approximately 21,000 students each term, College of DuPage is the largest public community college in the state of Illinois. The college grants seven associate degrees and offers more than 170 career and technical certificates in over 50 areas of study.
