Fun on the Fourth: Glenview celebrates Independence Day with the popular reverse parade

Glenview's Fourth of July reverse parade was held for the second straight year at Community Park West, with 500 cars and their occupants winding their way past stationary "floats" Sunday.

For the second consecutive year, the village's annual Independence Day parade had been canceled due to safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the reverse parade was held instead.

Various organizations, including the Glenbrook South High School pom squad and two sections of the Titans marching band, participated.

While most people are likely looking forward to the return of the traditional Fourth of July Parade, Kathleen McInnis, parade coordinator, said both the traditional and reverse parades over the past two years have their unique qualities.

"We're very excited. It's been fun," McInnis said as she directed cars merging at the entrance. "It's different, but it's still good."

Many of the cars passing through the reverse parade were decorated with flags and patriotic colors. Vehicle occupants received giveaway items, including novelty sunglasses for kids, at the entrance.
