Warrenville mayor sees new luxury apartments adding to housing diversity

Warrenville and DuPage County officials, along with investors and developers, are set to help celebrate the grand opening next week of a new luxury apartment building located within the city's Cantera Riverview West development.

The four-story, 364-unit Arden of Warrenville at 28294 Ferry Road already has more than half of its apartments leased, and is winning praise from Mayor David Brummel.

Brummel said he had personally inspected Lakeside Village of Oak Brook - also built by The Arden developer Interforum Holdings of Northfield - just to ensure that new building would follow in its footsteps.

"We were very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the materials of the building," Brummel said. "I'm in construction, so when I look at things I'm very critical. I'm really impressed with the job that they have done."

The building's name is a reference to the Forest of Arden in Shakespeare's "As You Like It," as well as 20th century business mogul Elizabeth Arden, famed for her high-end cosmetics.

"It's like a city building in the suburbs," said leasing agent and brand director Luis Luna.

Luna said the apartments feature "game changer" amenities that go beyond the expected stainless steel appliances and in-unit washers and dryers.

"With people from the city moving out to the suburbs, one of the biggest values right now is parking," he added, noting that the building's centralized parking garage that includes more than 400 spaces. The Arden also features nearly 300 surface spaces at street level and on the fourth floor and roof of the garage.

Other indoor amenities include a turf-style fitness center, a yoga room and in-house spa services. Outdoor amenities include a pool with lap lanes, outdoor courtyards, a rooftop terrace and lounge, and a dog park.

The Arden fits into Brummel's plan to ensure that the city has a diverse housing stock to appeal to all kinds of residents. He noted that the proposed 48-unit Sundance Town Home complex at 28301 Ferry Road was recently approved by the city council.

"It's absolutely imperative for a community to provide different types of housing, especially housing that's going to attract young people - the future of our community," Brummel said. "People who leave the city want similar amenities, they want a similar lifestyle, but perhaps want to be safer and be able to enjoy open spaces - which is what Warrenville offers."
