Lake County deputy receives MADD award for making more than 500 DUI arrests
Lake County Sheriff's Deputy Ari Briskman was given an award Sunday night by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his long career of arresting suspected intoxicated drivers and teaching his fellow officers how to spot them.
Briskman has arrested 500 suspected drunk or drugged drivers in his career, 48 of them last year, according to the sheriff's office.
In 2015, Briskman completed training to become a Drug Recognition Expert and has trained others since 2018. He also developed and teaches an impaired driving enforcement curriculum to police officers through the Homeland Security Training Institute at the College of DuPage.
Briskman was given the "MADD Heroes Award" at a ceremony Sunday night in Springfield. It's not his first recognition for his work. Briskman has won a MADD Top DUI Officer Award and eight Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorist awards for his work.
