Join 'Search for Spiders' at Oct. 23 nature program in Elgin
What a great time of the year to look for little, eight-legged creatures!
They're creepy, they're crawly, and they're cool!
Spiders are also very important to the lives of us humans.
How so, you might ask?
Come to the "Search for Spiders" program on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 5-6 p.m. at Burnidge Forest Preserve in Elgin.
On this all-ages walk offered by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, participants will search nooks and crannies, high and low, for different species of spiders.
If you catch a few specimens, you can get an up-close look at them and then let them go.
Bring a flashlight and the naturalist staff will supply the "bug jars."
Advance registration is required. Burnidge Forest Preserve is located at 38W235 Big Timber Road in Elgin.
Call (630) 444-3190 or email programs@kaneforest.com to register. The registration fee is $2 per person.
When the sun goes down, the creatures of the night awake at local forest preserves.
Later this month, the forest preserve district will host "Creatures of the Night" at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, online.
The spooky myths and legends that accompany these creepy crawlers are enough to give anyone goose bumps. Separate fact from fiction and learn about some of the creatures that go "bump in the night" during this virtual program.
