Arrowhead kicks off winter with Blitzen's Pop-up Bar

All kinds of fun events seem to pop up during the holidays, especially at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton where Blitzen's Outdoor Pop-up Bar will serve cocktails with names like The Grinch, Jack Frost Mimosa, White Christmas Margarita and Snowflake Martini.

Tables and chairs will be set up inside a heated tent where lunch and dinner will be served through Dec. 31. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

In addition to serving walk-in patrons, the festive space is available for private event bookings all day Mondays through Wednesdays and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays, weather permitting.

To book an event, call the banquets department at (630) 653-5802.

To keep the holiday momentum going and to save our guests time during the holiday bustle, Arrowhead will offer diners complimentary gift wrapping from through Dec. 23.

There is a $10 minimum food purchase. Arrowhead "elves" will expertly wrap up to three packages per guest. Donations will be accepted and will help support the DuPage County Historical Museum.

Get your most obnoxiously unfashionable holiday sweater out for Arrowhead's Ugly Sweater Night on Saturday, Dec. 18. Not only does this event promise lasting visual memories, but guests will have an opportunity to be the lead singer with Bandaroke, a live karaoke band.

There will be giveaways throughout the evening. At 8 p.m., prizes will be presented to the first-, second- and third-place winners.

"We are excited to be your holiday hot spot for our community this winter season. Blitzen's Outdoor Pop-Up Bar, our restaurant, and the entire clubhouse are full of holiday cheer," said Andy Bendy, the park district's director of special facilities. "We're delighted to provide complimentary gift-wrapping for our guests as well as host several holiday themed events and specialty drinks throughout this winter season."

After the holiday season, more fun awaits at Arrowhead.

On Friday, Feb. 11, Arrowhead will host a dinner followed by a performance by Windy City Dueling Pianos, Chicago-based keyboard players that put the musical skills of two pianists to the test with entertaining and comedic results.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner served at 5:30 p.m. The menu includes the chef's signature Arrowhead salad, chateaubriand, New York style cheesecake with raspberry drizzle and a cash bar.

Seating is assigned. If you would like to be seated with other people and you are purchasing tickets separately, please call the banquet office at (630) 653-5802.

Early bird pricing, available through Dec. 31, is $60 per person. Regular pricing is $65 per person.

Arrowhead's Straight From The Tap private beer tasting event is yet another way to take the sting out of winter's bitter chill.

The event is slated for 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19. Only 300 tickets will be sold.

Guests will have an opportunity to sample up to 32 two-ounce limited release, tap house exclusive and barrel-aged brews. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and entertainment will be provided.

A silent auction will offer guests the chance to do some competitive bidding on a variety of enticing items. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Proceeds from the raffle and auction will benefit the Sensory Garden Playground's newest project, the addition of playground equipment designed for 5 to 12-year-old children.

The Early Bird price, available through December 31, is $60 per VIP admission; Designated Driver tickets are $20. The regular price is $65 for VIP admission and $25 for Designated Driver tickets.

Doors open at 1 p.m. Attendees must be 21 or older to enter and must present a valid ID.
